Since the beginning of time three equine Gods live immortally in their heaven, an Olympus of sorts, light years beyond the clouds. They are of the purest blood. The first equines to touch the earth were direct descendants from these three God's. They sent equine's onto the Earth to live and prosper, wild and free. From their mysterious place in the heaven's, these God's watched over their children and for those who had belief and faith, the God's would reward them with strength, spirit, and good luck. The three equine God's- Andromeda, Cepheus, and Cassiopeia, were pure of heart, innocent down to the core. They knew only love. Through all of the troubles that made the Earth so cruel and ugly, the God's would return hope and beauty. Andromeda is the Goddess of all of nature. If the clouds are pouring rain, it is because she says it so. If the sun shines bright to warm the hearts of the Earth's inhabits, then they praise her name. When the flowers all blossom each spring, it reminds the equine's of her love. Cepheus is the God of peace. The good will, pure soul, divine instincts, that each equine is born with is from Cepheus. He does all in his power to grant each of his children with a clear mind and good heart. Some stray from this path though since after their birth Cepheus has no control. If you get a good feeling about something, that is Cepheus telling you that you are walking down the right path, though he cannot reach you unless you are eternally faithful to him. Finally Cassiopeia, who is the Goddess of love; a sort of cupid. She works hard to make sure that all of her children who roam the Earth know as much love for one another as she has for them. Her only goal is to see them all happy in love so that the species can live on through the generations. Pray to Cassiopeia often if you are seeking love and if you are faithful, your wish may just be granted.
A wise old stallion has ruled the land of Diamond Hills Valley, located in the outskirts of Nevada, since he was just a colt. For generations his blood have watched over this land. His father, grandfather, and great, great grandfather were all Kings here. The great King Pyrxis is the eldest son alive and so rightfully has taken the thrown as King; while his younger brother, who is a selfish, devious soul, yearned for the power associated with the title. Being only a couple of years behind, Corvus, senses the King’s fragility in his older age and has come to the conclusion that it is better for the well-being of equines of Diamond Hills Valley if he were ruler instead. Because of the brother's feud, the land has split in half, with King Pryxis ruling the North and Corvus taking over the South with his army of followers who have been convinced of the current King’s weakness and fear that if they don’t side with Corvus that they will find only death. The God’s can sense the evil that lives in the brother’s heart. If he is not stopped, a great war will unfold in the once peaceful valley of Diamond Hills. Hence, they blessed the great King with three sons. The eldest is Alnitak, the middle son Alnilam, and the youngest named Mintaka. The God’s gave these colts everything they would need for the war that would rule their lives. They were granted with great strength, outstanding stamina, keen senses, and leadership skills beyond that of their father. They were exalted Demigods incarnate to do the work that the God's could themselves not.
One day, when Alnitak reached three years of age, Alnilam two, and Mintaka just a yearling, they stumbled upon strange two-legged creatures who had ventured into their land. Their father was hesitant of the creatures but made no action against them. Since he knew nothing of them, he figured they were harmless. Their speed was pathetic, their balance unstable, and their claws trimmed. To his surprise, a couple days after they were first spotted, they left and returned with loud, putrid smelling mechanical monsters. The flying monsters chased the herd relentlessly. It chased them until they were no longer in their land. Every time they would try to turn and run for home, the monster would cut them off and set them back on course. For days and days they ran. Some of the horses who were weak and elder or just newborn could not keep up and let out their last breathe as the monsters flew over them. The alpha mare, mother to the three sons, was 7 months pregnant and grew weak very quickly. The extra weight added onto her physique dragged her down tremendously, resulting in her doom. Pryxis’ heart grew full of sorrow for he knew that all hope was lost. Where were the Gods? Did they abandon him? Finally they were rounded up into pens and the loud monster rushed passed them and disappeared into the clouds. As silence filled the land, they all stood perfectly still, muscles sore and cramping from the strenuous exercise, and their minds confused by all the new smells and the panels that kept them caged. The whole night they stood, shaking in their skins, terrified of what was next to come. When the sun rose, the two-legs returned. They made their rounds through the herd, tagging some that were instantly transferred into new pens away from their herd. The remaining few horses - the father, the two older sons, and a few lucky mares, were given the chance at freedom. The gate was opened and the humans simply left the scene. The King was torn…leave his herd that remained captured or find his way back to the land that he ruled. There was no chance that his brother hadn’t noticed his absence and was already scheming to take over the whole valley. Pryxis couldn’t let that happen.
The King and his few remaining herd mates traveled back to Diamond Hills Valley. What they arrived to find was something they never expected. The brother had taken over, yes, but he had turned his entire herd into his captives who would do whatever he asked of them for fear of him killing them. Corvus had lookouts posted all across the valley, waiting for any sign of the King’s return. The King knew he had to warn them of the danger of the two-legged creatures. Yet, if he dared to enter the land, he would be captured and killed. So with the remaining mares and his sons, the stallion made their new home in a meadow just outside the valley’s perimeter. This was his new haven, the only place in Diamond Hills Valley where an equine was safe from the wrath of his brother. Over time the King’s presence became known and those who dared to, fled to the land of safety. Most were killed in this endeavor but a few lucky equines gained their freedom from the evil Corvus, causing his rage to grow with each passing day. He tried to get his followers to assemble an army to attack the King, but they all refused and with the numbers against him, the brother was alone on his battle. That was until a black vixen showed up, taunting Corvus with lust to become his alpha mare, and shared his fixation on ruling the whole land – which was only possible with the death of Pryxis and his sons. With the rise of this black demon mare, the God’s knew that the King was in trouble. The demon constantly spoke of many followers from other lands that would do absolutely anything for her, including slaughtering a King. It was because of this that the God's finally took drastic measures. They sent Cassiopeia onto the mortal earth, in the form of a beautiful golden Akhal-Teke equine mare. They created a haven for her, a misty forest with trees that touched the heavens and a pond where fish the colors of the rainbow danced together. Just beside that pond was a cave where this Goddess resides. She was created blind – too innocent for the God’s to give her vision to see all of the devastation of Earth. She would not age since she was destined to be upon the Earth until called her back. Her immortality was to be kept a secret, so they banished her to this haven and gave her the ability to talk to those she needed to only in their dreams. Because of her doom to experience Earth alone, they sent her an orphan to take under her wing and give her the fulfillment of love.
Back in the human world, Mintaka was the only one of the brothers that they chose to keep. They admired him for his unique coloring and decided that he would make a perfect human mount. They tried to break his spirit with ropes and whips but the stallion, bred for war, would not give up. Yes, he was calm and friendly when he was around his fellow equines, but once they took him away and tried to throw a saddle on him and put a metal bit in his mouth, the stallion grew awfully hostile and down right dangerous. While they had started off with high hopes for the young stud, at the auction the stallion was sold for the least amount of money out of the whole herd, and to a gentleman with an evil smirk on his face. The stallion could feel the menacing energy that the man gave off. The man reminded him of his Uncle; evil to the core, always twisting his fingers and plotting his next attack to gain power. As Mintaka was being trailored down the dirt road to the man’s property, the smells around him became familiar. He could not see the outside world from this contraption he was in, but the wind brought the scent of his father. Mintaka whinnied with delight. The God’s were watching over him! The barn was just miles away from where his father now resided, just outside of Diamond Hills Valley.
That first night in the evil man’s barn, Mintaka had a strange dream. He dreamt of a metallic golden mare running through a foggy forest, dodging in and out of the towering trees. Desperately he tried to chase her down but she was too quick for him. The stallion would come right to her heels and then she would disappear for a moment and reappear two hundred feet away from him. She subtly led him to an eerie cave. The stallion slowed as she disappeared into the cave. He hesitantly entered the cave, looking to and fro and checking his back at all times. Although the eeriness of the situation was overwhelming, Mintaka felt as if someone else was controlling his feet and carrying him deeper and deeper into the cave. Suddenly the mare showed herself. Standing next to her was a massive ghostly equine, his eyes locked onto Mintaka. Next thing he knew, he was opening his eyes to find himself still in his cage. The lights were blinding and the smell of shavings disgusted him. The strong scent of them covered up the aroma of his father that lingered in the air. Mintaka waited for many days to dream of the golden mare again. The memory of her standing silently in the cave with the black stallion constantly flashed in his mind. The dark bay stallion stood silent through all of the beatings that the men put him through, all of the mental abuse that they constantly tormented him with, his mind traveled to that golden mare. The thought of her gave him strength which he could not explain or understand. Finally the man was fed up with the stallion. No matter what they did to him, Mintaka would not move a muscle. He stood still every time they took him out. Eventually he refused to even eat or drink. One day the man decided that the stallion was better dead than alive. While Mintaka was taking a nap that day, the mare finally returned to his dreams. The chase happened again but instead of leading him to the cave, this time she led him to a hill that overlooked his father’s current meadow. “A war will soon break out across the land.” Her voice was as soft as honey. She looked over at him. “You must return to your father.” Awakening from that, Mintaka jumped onto all fours with a fury. Determination ran strong through his veins. Just seconds later, the man was standing in front of the stall. He mumbled something in a language foreign to the stallion. There was only one thing on his mind – escaping. As the man haltered him, Mintaka remained calm. The God’s gave him the gift of divine intelligence. An escape plan was already made – he must act normal until the perfect chance to escape, which was probably just as the man was leading him from the barn to the round pen a few hundred yards away. As the man neared the entrance of the barn, tight grasp on the lead line, the stud threw his fore hooves off of the ground, tossed his head in the opposite direction of the man, and thrust his chest into the body of the man that planned to murder him. The slightly obese man fell onto his bottom and let out a scream of fury as the stallion galloped off with the lead line dragging beneath him. The fence that lined the border of the property was the next challenge. As he approached it, Mintaka gained speed and once he reached it he coiled his hind legs beneath him and used them as a spring to shoot himself into the air and over the fence. Freedom was his! He danced with joy as he saw several ranch hands grab their horses and speed out the gate to try and catch him. Mintaka laughed aloud as he swiveled in the direction of his father and took off with speed greater than those of the most famous racehorses.
Finding his father was simple. The scent that had been taunting his keen senses each day led him straight to the flourishing meadow where his previous herd mates and family grazed peacefully. Mintaka whinnied as he poured over the hill and loped down to his father and brothers. They were overjoyed to see their brother alive and free! His father embraced him with love, nuzzling his muscular neck and dancing jubilantly in circles around him, whinning loudly and throwing his muzzle to the heavens to praise the Gods. “My youngest son, you have been returned to me! What a miracle,” he halted and stood face to face with his son, a smile on his kissers, and light sparkling in his eyes, “We are in dark times, my boy, but I had a dream of a golden vixen who spoke of a prophecy.” He got very close to his son, and whispered in his ear, “The key to winning the war is Orion’s belt.” As he spoke this, he took a step back, and examined the mysterious object that was strapped to his son’s face. The lead line had broken off but the leather halter remained, and on it was a name plate engraved with the calling the human’s had dubbed him, “ORION”.
Corvus and Lyra are constantly scheming ways to destroy the King. It wasn't long before they heard the rumor of the prophecy. The concept of Orion's belt was foreign to them. They were clueless to meaning of the prophecy. All that Corvus knew was that he had to destroy his brother as soon as possible, but that alone wouldn't be enough. The three sons needed to be destroyed as well, since they would undoubtedly fight for their chance to reign. Day by day, those willing to fight for Corvus grew in numbers. He had spies for him that he constantly sent to the King's Haven and day in and day out sent attacks aimed at all three of the brothers. The tension in the air grew thick. A war was coming. Every equine throughout all of the land was curious of this prophecy, but nobody could put their finger on it. King Pryxis knew it had something to do with his sons, but what?
